Traditional Medicinal Uses: The fern is considered an astringent, demulcent, depurative, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, emollient, expectorant, laxative, stimulant, sudorific and a tonic.[1] It is also used for alopecia, asthma, bladder ailments, catarrh, chest ailments, chills, cold, dropsy, dysmenorrhoeal, fever, head ailments, hepatosis, labour, lung ailments, respiratory problems, rheumatism, sclerosis, snake bite, sores, sore throat, splenosis, stones and other urinary calcification......more on book
Toxicity: Should not be used during pregnancy

Phytoconstituents
: Adiantoxide, adiantone, isoadiantone, isoadiantol, hydroxyadiantone, capesterol and others.[

Origin: Native to America, Mexico, West Indies and South America. It can also be found in temperate regions of Eurasia and Africa.

All along the Himalayas from Kashmir to Sikkim between altitudes of 1800 and 2700m.

Action:
Astringent, demulcent, expectorant, antitussive, stimulant, emmenagogue. Fonds used in chronic catarrh (as an ingredient of cough and bronchial medicines); also in cold imposthumes of uterus, hard swellings and hard tumours of spleen, liver and other viscera.
